Fair Announcements – 5

Kim: Council has assigned jobs for this year, check the website to see if your booth has a new liaison.
https://communityvillageocf.org/people-jobs/

Jain: Fair Family News is out yesterday, visit .net to read it. https://oregoncountryfair.net/wp-content/uploads/bsk-pdf-manager/2026/02/0226ffnFeb026.pdf

Additional Village Entrance (https://communityvillageocf.org/proposal-for-village-expansion/ )

Sam summarizes the info. Fair wanted to avoid cul-de-sacs and add a fire exit when this was brought to the Village. After many talks, a committee was created to work with the fair to create a new entrance with requirements we reached consensus on. See them with the above link. A Fair vendor booth was not happy, which stopped the process.

Now, we were reached out to by the Fair. They mentioned that the Booth is no longer there, and do we want to move forward? It would be up to us.

Comments:

Alita Miller sent the email to us saying Fair doesn’t really care, so it’s up to us. We spent a lot of time, came to consensus with certain limits, yes let’s move forward. Camping areas have been hard to secure, don’t need a new entrance. Glad it didn’t happen. Could be more inclusive. Not a good idea at this time, too much of our energy. Could be a great idea, more space, still be safe, new booth space maybe for Rainbow Village, more camping possible, let’s honor our original consensus please. Remember heated discussion back them, kids came out with colored pictures, make sure kid’s voices are considered if we go forward. If we pursue this, it would take some serious time to get it done, a multi-year process. If we say we wanna talk more, it would stay on their radar. Would like more flow moving through that space, wanna keep a gentle, healing space. We will meet the concerns as we pursue it, let’s do that. Right now, we are having trouble getting enough energy to do what we already have to do this year, this would be too much. Fair has a list of possible projects that go on the list, they might ask us again next year. Why would we want this? The village is so intimate… Karla: Maybe just tell the Fair that we ‘d like to keep this open for the future, so they know we didn’t just ignore them. Agree to move forward and follow Karla’s idea.

EAB task force

John and Amber will give update: Sharing slides… There is a Board task force repping different part of the Fair. Where we are, what we are doing. Don’t wanna have a Fair under a dead canopy… (FFN article) Lots of strategies under consideration… The Village has 85-95% ash trees. 5 years from now we will see signs of dying trees. This needs an arborist to take care of the trees we can keep. Where and when? See chat below or follow the link. It is a forest transition. https://oregoncountryfair.net/event/emerald-ash-borer-site-walk-13/

Restaurant Update

Sara and Karla went to a tasing Sunday, the selection committee is great. 3 different restaurants to taste, all very different. The Fair committee will look at what’s best for the Fair, then we get to comment. The stand out had all we want including a special and coffee (can’t identify the restaurant yet), but the lady has worked for Holy Cow, has done this at other festivals, wants to be in the village community, she knows what she is doing. Fingers crossed… More info in a few weeks. All 3 had great dinks as well as food. All open to early and late open hours for us. All were vegetarian. The chosen candidate will come to a Village meeting to get our input.

Comments:
What the Fair looks like at night now, kinda mellow. Want more for this year! Chrissy wants in the committee. Remember the cocktail party? Fun, got too big, made too much noise, need ID’s to serve liquor? Talent Show! Tables and chairs at night to watch the stage…talent show. Be real anti-Authoritarian activists!! Yes to an elder’s panel discussion with questions. We could need more tables. Cocktail party!!! An Art Salon…

Let’s get this stuff done! We still have chairs in a storage unit for the cabaret, without alcohol? So many lights now! Has the Fair discussed ICE at the Fair? Go positive to how we make a difference over 50 years to counter the administration movement now. Campfire on Saturday, Party on Friday. Create a song with each booth writing a verse, maybe get an influencer to sing it, go viral: Ben. Lots of good ideas, both tonight and last meeting…embrace the chaos. Chrissy Peirsol on the night time committee. Have booths share truthful info about vaccines, etc! And mocktales are good. Include activist stuff in the talent show.

How to make this happen?? Define the job… Thursday and Friday night committee. Youth committee for sharing their vision.  Tim on Activity Committee. Yasha on Night Committee. Omo on Activity cabaret and peace march committee. Sara daytime activity (dance?) Fair has a get out the vote committee, too. Benjamin: Song idea at opening ceremony. Karla, which committee: Night activity, Other Activities (Tim). Values committee Taylor and Sam. Please put stuff in chat. Youth in talent show. My screen has a blue arrow at either side, in the middle vertically.  Does your screen have that?

Taylor Rutledge – Needle Fox Arts (she/her) 6:42 PM
She is not allowed in.

Benjamin Luskin 6:38 PM
How do I shift screens to see other folk?

Charleen Justice 6:45 PM
If she knows someone’s number, she should call them and put it on speaker phone

Taylor Rutledge – Needle Fox Arts (she/her) 6:42 PM
Apparently there is a max number of participants and we have at least one person outside the Zoom meeting.

David 6:46 PM
NO! MUTE!

Lorna 6:47 PM
Yes
It helps us be more inclusive

Cat – Green Earth Booth Coordinator 6:49 PM
Council – Please recognize that having zoom meetings is a desire of several village members. You might consider having another zoom meeting this season?

jay patton (CGS eureka) 6:49 PM
oh, also this provides more space and more camping.

Meredith Allen 6:49 PM
I agree with Omo. I don’t think we should.
I agree with Jain and Sue too!

jay patton (CGS eureka) 6:50 PM
good point about how things are different, that in the past it was pushed on us

Maggie Pecora 6:51 PM
It’s not good for the intimacy of the Village Experience. No thank you

Jain and Sue 6:52 PM
Also we’d have to boot Johnny Hahn out of his space, which  so don’t want tp do.

RJ + Anna 6:47 PM
Why are culdesacs dangerous?

Kelsey Kawders 6:51 PM
Looks like a spot has opened up if someone wants to let the person know.

jay patton (CGS eureka) 6:53 PM
good points tim
everyone has brought up good points

Laura R 6:48 PM
I have an AREAS person trying to join meeting but he is getting a message that it is at capacity.  Is there anything that can be done?

jay patton (CGS eureka) 6:54 PM
good point!

K’Rene Kos 6:55 PM
https://ocfpathplanning.org/

Lorna 6:55 PM
Slow is good. Lots to consider…

jay patton (CGS eureka) 6:56 PM
so if we don’t decide, we can have it stay as an open idea without “locking in” this plan.

jay patton (CGS eureka) 6:56 PM
good point!

Laura R 6:57 PM
Good point Ryan!

jay patton (CGS eureka) 6:58 PM
we could keep it an open idea and not do anything

Lorna 6:58 PM
Capacity is real!

Erin Moody they/them and Kirstin Rea she/her 6:58 PM
I would second Kelsey’s concern with not being able to drum up interest in building a committee to address this as an option.

jay patton (CGS eureka) 7:00 PM
we could say, nothing has changed. and we can discuss this in the future

Lorna 7:01 PM
So many considerations

jay patton (CGS eureka) 7:01 PM
it gives us more camping space and may give us another booth (rainbow?)

Turtle 7:01 PM
Could that extra space be used without opening another entrance?

Sara 7:01 PM
I have to agree it feels like a safe, quiet zone in an otherwise very overstimulating environment.

Erin Moody they/them and Kirstin Rea she/her 7:01 PM
Change totally can be good! I’d like to remain open to further discussion down the road, as well.

Rowan 7:03 PM
Growth and change, channeled in a positive way, is not necessarily a bad thing IMHO.

Tanya Stiller (she/they) 7:03 PM
Hi Freda Love!!!

diane albino, she, her 7:03 PM
I didn’t see the place for our quiet space-yurt, dome , and pyramid in the proposed plan

Jeanette Hardiso

EAB WORKING GROUP DRAFT VISION

When we envision a future 20 to 30 years from the present, we will know that we have accomplished excellent stewardship with an appreciation for the historic ecology of the OCF Fairgrounds.

We will have overcome challenges like the arrival of Emerald Ash Borer by co-creating a novel, resilient, open socio-ecological system that is adaptable to climate change and that sustains the cultural transformation and community that is the OCF.

We will have institutionalized long-term land management principles based on the best available science, transparent processes, and inclusive engagement — all grounded on the OCF founding principles.

We will have educated the Fair Family about working with the land.

The OCF will occur every year in a safe woodland landscape—although that woodland might be comprised of different tree species that presently occur.

In short, we envision: an ecologically resilient managed wooded landscape that sustains the Oregon Country Fair.

Part of the internal village issue with Green Earth’s cocktail party was the amount of light (I heard “too much like Vegas”)

Erin Moody they/them and Kirstin Rea she/he
r 7:44 PM
It would be an option to offer mocktails and.. allow villagers to do what they like otherwise – was alcohol the reason for kickback?

Cat – Green Earth Booth Coordinato
r 7:46 PM
The alcohol was a big contribution to it “getting out of hand”.  I personally like the “mock tail” idea

Turtl
e 7:46 PM
mocktail party!

christina peirso
l 7:46 PM
How could would it be if we had bedtime stories read by the bigger kids to the littler ones …. Or we could understand who would be the fire pit people.

Karl

Yes. Alcohol was the issue

Bria

Love love LOVE  you all!!!❤️❤️❤️

Ben Luskin:

Slouching on the couch

beer in my hand

thinking about all the worries

plaguing Bethlehem

Bombs explode

people mourn

lover lost

our kinship torn

sometimes I want to shout

sometimes I want to cry

Im just as confused

trying to figure out why

Man I got the blues

from head to toe

but I got something else too

ample in store

I’m talking about love

its the main event

why run off chasing a destiny

that hasn’t happened yet?

so do you a solid

and push pause on your grief

relax your body

and put up your feet

think about your connections

and what makes you tick

feel your sensations

deep in your limbs

allow yourself to be coddled

by your feelings of connection

we can love each other through our demise

fuck the election

so when the dust settles

and you can make out the clues

I put it to you now

which story will you choose?

Man I got the blues

from head to toe

but I got something else too

ample in store

I’m talking about love

its the main event

why run off chasing a destiny

that hasn’t happened yet?

so do you a solid

and push pause on your grief

relax your body

and put up your feet
