Agenda review (5)
Sunday Morning Om Circle – Omo is coordinating!!
Spirit Booth
Every morning, we do a Morning Circle at 10am. Friday at 10:30 the Spirit Booth does our opening ceremony…so beautiful and grounding, we celebrate our LGH and our past loved ones. This year we offer workshops AND our ancestor tree AND forgiveness bowl (write something on the dissolving paper and watch your issue paper disappear. Last year 800 slips of forgiveness were dissolved.
Fair announcements (20)
Omo and Keith Saturday at Noon Saturday on the CV stage…
Workshop & Demo rap – Beth
Beth not here… Deadline has passed for Peach Pit, but you still may be able to find a slot to do a workshop. Honey Bee needs help, having trouble connecting with Beth as well as camping.
Decon & deconstruction liaison rap – Nathan
2 separate subjects…
Village Deconstruction… Working to make it more efficient, safe and expeditious by lining up volunteers to do deconstruction Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday. Those doing this work would fulfill the pre-fair requirements all must do. So far only one person has stepped up to do this, which is concerning. Let’s find more folks. Booth coords, please discuss this in booth breakdown. Volunteers will be fed and Sauna will be open. Need 4-6 volunteers. Contact Nathan: 541-852-3163 ngeorgitis@gmail.com
Booth deconstruction: We are expecting every booth to complete decon Monday. If your booth is not doing that, please talk with Nathan. Absolute decon is Teddy Bears Picnic. But in the past, this has not always worked, and we have to scramble to get it done.
Onsite meeting and potluck June 23 at noon… work party time before and after.
Construction Rap – Diane & Banjo
Rick or Diane not here… Things are going well, communication is good. Carpenter ants have been discovered in some posts.
After Booth Breakdown: Rick: Not a lot of major construction, but lots of smaller things. He is coordinating. Green Earth needs help this Saturday, can you help? Wants to know who is coming each weekend day. Let him know if you see or need anything. 541.543.0624 Rickkb@LIVE.COM
Camping Rap – Sharon Nina
Yesterday was camping deadline submission. She will check in to booth breakdown today. cvillagecamping@gmail.com
Site Report – David
Little Village Tree will get a final look at this weekend, likely it will not be cut until a future winter. Big log in swamp camp blocking the escape route path. Sunday work party may include bringing down bamboo. Is this too early for the bamboo? They can be moved to final location later and will be out of the way for construction until then.
Registration Rap – John
Most of the cash has been in, first deposit yesterday, so John will get to pressing you to get your money now. For CV in general…OCF wants everyone to sign up in the new OCF database designed to have all of us make an account, entry to it should be done soon. Still, lots are paying the usual way, so don’t worry if the Fair asks you, if you already paid by check, you’re good. Arthur asks, “Is there a security concern, maybe do not use your Credit Card there.” Database info and instructions here: https://sunshine.oregoncountryfair.net/login.html
Stage announcement?
No one here with news, look at OCF site: https://www.oregoncountryfair.org/the-event/the-lineup/ CV website will be updated with workshops and stage acts as soon as Beth and Plaedo send Tim the info.
Fire Rap
Omo: Bring shovels and fire extinguishers near your campsite. Get your own if you can. Who’s on Village Fire Crew? ALL OF US. Can get fire extinguishers recharged in Springfield, also can do at Fair for a fee. Fire Extinguisher training will happen, too. PASS: “Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep”. Needed for each booth and more in camp areas. We MAY have a Saturday night fire, needs fire tenders (contact Omo) and a permit that Omo will get.
Info has a phone to use if you see a fire. If you see a fire, send 2 people to info who can call, and another to guide people to the fire site, while you slap burlap and water down the fire. NO OPEN FLAMES.
Lots news in the new FFN, about fire, including requirement that all fire exting wisherts be certified or receipt of recent purchase. Skeeter: how to use buckets of water…which is used to soak the burlap in the slap at the fire. DO NOT CALL 911, the info booth and Fair Central is what we use. Café Mam may have burlap to donate.
One Fun Thing
Banjo makes noise we can’t hear. So… Hokey Pokey…..
Justice and Equity Discussion – Jade (15)
Jade: Following up on last month’s meeting. Hoping booth’s report back about their discussions last month. Our goal is to all be into equity for all. Anyone can volunteer to do the equity presentation at any meeting. Resourced here https://docs.google.com/document/d/10jUG0mCN-8CM0tm0HOfryIce6eKA69JuxhHPzvkJhWw/edit Talked about white supremacy still found in our small spaces. Does anyone want to share their perspective?
Fred at Intentional Communities did have a good discussion. Things to do: Consider finding/wearing pins with your preferred pronouns on them. Maybe put up a petition regarding indigenous rights… Jade: Go ahead and take the initiative!
Booth Breakdown (40) and Booth Reports (5)
Folks are planning to show up for work party day of meeting, 6/23, from LLL.
Green Earth: when can people come during the week to do work party? Weekday time needs to be coord with Rick unless you have your own project. This booth is vibrant and new. To eat at the OCF main kitchen, you need to be on a working crew or have special situation. Most villagers would not be able to eat until leftovers
Areas Camping Coord: email camping info ASAP…already overdue. cvillagecamping@gmail.com
LENA: NA meeting at 1 in the YURT every Fair day.

- Embrace learning – we’re all on the same team
- Speak to the things that went well before offering criticism, include specific suggestions
- If you feel defensive, acknowledge that in yourself, examine it curiously
- Name defensiveness as a problem when it is one
- Recognize those times when you need to get off the agenda in order to address people’s underlying concerns
- Recognize the contributions and skills that every person brings to the table
- Accept that there are many ways to get to the same goal
- Look for the tendency for a group or a person to keep pushing the same point over and over out of a belief that there is only one right way and then name it
- When working with communities from a different culture than yours or your group’s, be clear that you have some learning to do about the communities’ ways of doing
- Notice when people are simplifying complex issues, particularly when the stakes seem high or an urgent decision needs to be made
- Don’t require those who raise hard issues to raise them in ‘acceptable’ ways, especially if you are using the ways in which issues are raised as an excuse not to address those issues
- Assume that everybody has a valid point and your job is to understand what that point is
- Understand that discomfort is at the root of all growth and learning; welcome it as much as you can
jade 7:20 PM
Discussion questions for booths:
jade 7:20 PM
- Did the conversation about white supremacy remind you of any dynamics or practices in your booth or in the Village? (could be positive or negative feedback)
- How would you approach the work in your booth differently if more folks in your booth were not white, straight, cisgender, able-bodied? How can you shift that dynamic before changing who is in the booth? If you put yourself in the shoes of others, what would make you feel comfortable and welcome?
*Remember you may not know people’s identities and shouldn’t ask people to share
- How would you approach your work at the fair if the demographics of attendees were more diverse? How can you make your booth and presence more welcoming now?
- How does your booth’s mission intersect with racial justice? What about queer and trans liberation?
- How can you reflect those intersections in your booth’s offerings and programming at the fair? How can that tangibly uplift people of color who are affected? How can that tangibly uplift queer and trans people who are affected?
Lala W 7:57 PM
I am open to carpool if you want to take a chance on getting a ride back in. Either way.
